Is Savannakhet worth visiting?

Yes. Savannakhet is the second-most populous city in Laos and is home to people of diverse nationalities, including Lao, Thai, Chinese, and Vietnamese. This is another must-see site in Laos, featuring a wide range of tourist attractions ranging from temples to colonial buildings and natural landscapes.

The best time to visit Savannakhet is between November and February when the weather is warm and dry. From March to May, the temperature rises along with the humidity, making the region very humid. Heatstroke should be avoided at all costs.

Savannakhet Airport (ZVK) offers domestic flights from Vientiane and Pakse in Laos, as well as international flights from Bangkok, Thailand, and Da Nang in Vietnam. Savannakhet is served by shuttle buses running between Vientiane and Pakse. However, the bus ride would be exhausting, taking more than 8 hours from Vientiane and 5 hours from Pakse. You may reserve your bus ticket at your hotel one day ahead of time.
